Upper Division Championship Tournaments

At the completion of the regular season schedule, teams in the Upper Divisions will be seeded based on their records (tie breaker rules defined at the bottom of this page). All teams within their respective divisions make it into the tournament and will play based on the schedules displayed below. This is a single-elimination tournament, and the last teams standing will be crowned Division Champions!

Seeding Tie-Breaker Rules

In the event of a tie within a divisions' team seeding, we will use the tiebreaking procedure below.  A tie is defined as having the exact same winning percentage as defined by the standings on the SportsEngine site. The GameChanger app is the official record keeping for wins / losses and player stats though does not account for tie scores in its Win % calculation, so we default to the SportsEngine calculation for that metric.  For example, 6-5-1 vs 6-5-1 is a tie, while 6-5-1 (.542 win pctg) and 5-4-1 (.550 win pctg) is not a tie and 5-4-1 is the higher numerical / lower ranked seed.

Tiebreakers:

A.  If two teams have the exact same record at the end of the season, the tie will be broken as follows:

  1. head-to-head record of teams that are tied...if still tied,
  2. run differential in head-to-head games....if still tied,
  3. coin toss

B.  If more than two teams have the exact same record at the end of the season, the tie will be broken as follows:

  1. head-to-head record within all teams that are tied...if still tied,
  2. run differential in head-to-head games within all teams that are tied...if still tied,
  3. pick number out of hat

Procedure B can be used several times until only two teams are still tied.  Procedure A can then be used to break the tie between the remaining two teams.

Modified Rules for Tournament

All published league rules are in effect during the tournament with the following clarifications and exceptions:

1. No new innings may be started after 1 hour and 45 minutes from the actual game start time and there is a Hard Stop at 2 hours and 15 minutes of game play (exception to Hard Stop in point #2 below). Any inning in progress at 1 hour and 45 minutes is deemed the final inning.  If the home team is leading and is at bat at 1 hour and 45 minutes the game is effectively over and the home team wins. If the visiting team is batting and does not keep or take a lead, the game will end after their at bat with the home team winning. If the visiting team is batting and takes a lead, the home team will bat their half of the inning.

2. Normal Hard Stop rule applies (revert to last complete inning) UNLESS the hard stop would result in a tie game. If so, the Hard Stop will be bypassed to complete the inning in progress to, hopefully, determine a winner.

3. Due to time constraints, if a game is still tied after point #2 above the higher seeded team will advance during the Wildcard, Round 1, or Semifinal games. If the Championship Game results in a tie, Co-Champions will be declared.
